The Songs That Shape Us

One of our greatest sources of Christian theology and spirituality is our hymns. They are rich depositories of biblical spirituality, theological truth, and Christian belief. Hymns stir the soul, sustain the spirit, and enrich the mind. Hymns expresses the theology of the church in profound and perceptive ways and with memorable language. A.W. Tozer was quite right when he wrote: “After the Bible, the next most valuable book for the Christian is a good hymnal. Let any young Christian spend a year prayerfully meditating on the hymns of Watts and Wesley alone and he will become a fine theologian.” The understanding of our faith that comes through singing and reflecting on hymns can carry us throughout our lives.  Starting July 9, we are going to be looking at the great hymns of the faith, and see how they bring God’s Word alive through song. Join us in worship for “The Songs That Shape Us: A Study of Theology in Our Hymns”, and learn about our great faith that is formed through song.
